10 Sun Protection Tips!

- Eat SPFs: Certain foods, like chocolate, red wine and tomatoes, contain an average SPF of 2. These foods help fight harming rays when included in your normal diet. They're not substitutes for topical SPF protection, of course, but they're rich in antioxidants and good for you
- Protect Your Scalp: You may want to let your locks hang loose when at the beach, but make sure any exposed areas of the scalp are protected. If you don't want to wear a hat, slide an SPF stick over your scalp every time you reapply sunscreen, for maximum protection.
- Get a Skin Check: Once a year, get a thorough check from a dermatologist. He or she will check for suspicious marks. They may even be hiding in places where our clothes normally cover.
- Remember Your Hands: Hands are one of the most exposed areas of the body, and yet many people forget to apply sunscreen there. Between washing your hands and working with them throughout the day, it's easy for lotions to get rubbed off. Every time you wash your hands, reapply sunscreen like you would hand lotion. Freckles and wrinkles will appear on your hands first, and you don't want to look old, do you?
- Fight Free Radicals: Free radicals are found in car exhaust and cigarette smoke. They are reactive molecules that damage cells and accelerate the aging process. Counteract the damage by eating foods like apricots, wheat germ and leafy greens, like kale and spinach.
- Wear SPF: Besides wearing lotion with SPF, cover up with clothes containing an SPF shield. An average t-shirt contains an SPF of 5, but fashionable, trendy clothing companies are coming out with clothing with SPFs as large as 50, like these cute cover-ups from Mott 50! It doesn't reduce the need for sunscreen, but it can help protect your skin.
- Get 'D' in Your Diet: You don't have to sit in the sun all day to get your vitamin D. Drink milk and orange juice, and eat fish and cheese. Eating these foods every day will give you plenty of vitamin D . If you're still feeling a little sluggish, speak to your doctor about a potential vitamin D deficiency. He may recommend that you take supplements or sit in the sun for 15-20 minutes per day.
